I am trying to get my new Epson Artisan 837 to work with ABBYY's FineReader Sprint 8.0 OCR software that comes free with the printer. ABBYY sent me an FTP link to download their software version that will work with Mountain Lion (the application on the CD does not work with 10.8), and the application opens and will run OCR with an already scanned file. However, it does not recognize my scanner. The scanner is connected wirelessly, not by USB cable. I can scan a document via VueScan or Preview and save as a PDF.

FineReady can then open up that saved file and do an OCR. Would like to avoid that multi-step process and scan/OCR directly from the application.

I suspect, but have not confirmed, that I may have to connect the Epson 837 to my Mac with a USB cable to scan/OCR directly. Anyone seen and solved this problem?
